In a press release entitled “Chevrolet Malibu Eco Brings Flavor to Vanilla Segment”, General Motors has announced that the new Malibu midsize will receive turbocharged performance model that will join the new 4-cylinder and eAssist Eco mild hybrid model.
Output figures were not released, however, you can bet your bowtie badge that we’re talking about the same sort of horsepower as its Buick brothers, so 270 hp or so will have to do. The announcement was made today at the press launch of the new Malibu Eco model, in Austin, TX.
That being said, the Malibu Turbo is still a way off from reaching the market, as the Eco model with GM’s eAssist hybrid system will launch first, with 182 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque while achieving 25/37 mpg. It will be later followed by a the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder base model with 190 hp, economy figures for which have not been announced yet.
