BMW USA launched the M6 Gran Coupe as it was supposed to, on a race track. Most of the major publications in the US were invited to the event, amongst them being the guys from Left Lane News.
Writing a test drive about the M6 Gran Coupe seems easy. It's not because the car is dull but because it does everything so good, you'll find it hard to complain about anything but you'll have to keep your praises in check.
What hasn't already been said about BMW's 4-door coupe? It's definitely the most beautiful car in BMW's line-up at the moment both outside and inside. The interior is luxurious and will make you thing you're sitting in a limousine like a 7 Series instead of a track beast.
However, once you start the 4.4-liter V8 under its bonnet, your skin will start raising little hair roots in one process called "goose bumps". Take it for a quick spin and its roar will be forever stapled in your memory.
The GC is not only fast in a straight line (reaching 60 mph in 4.1 seconds) but it's also fast on the track. Stick it in Sport or Sport+ mode using the useful buttons located near the gearshift lever and you'll enter a world of high-performance, somewhat unworthy of such luxury.
You can also get the M6 GC in a Competition Package that will add 15 HP, some torque and some suspension and chassis tweaks that will make you not only fast but also feared on a raceway.
Switch the controls in Comfort mode and you'll be cruising around city street so comfortably that you'll wonder where all the haste and aggressiveness went. Yes, the M6 GC can also be very, very comfortable.
Bottom line, BMW hit a home run with this one. It's a perfect blend of luxury, comfort, speed and looks that the Bavarian company's fans have been waiting for.
