Besides the 2009-2010 Dodge Ram, the NHTSA is also investigating another Chrysler vehicle, the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. According to an official statement, the safety body found that the SUV runs the risk of a power steering house failure due to a leak, which could also cause a fire.
The NHTSA opened a probe after receiving a customer complaint about steering failure. There have also been two recent cases of engine compartment fires. A potential recall could affect as many as 106,803 vehicles from the 2012 model year.
It really seems that Jeep can’t get a break from its safety problems. A recent test by a Swedish magazine saw the Grand Cherokee failing the moose test. Chrysler officials say the vehicle was improperly loaded, but the Swedish publication also added the tires were damaged by the test.
