Somehow, BMW is managing to come up with something new and impressive just about every week now. We’ve been inundated with news of the 1-Series, 3-Series, M6, X5, X6 and 6-Series, all of which have gotten new engines or drivetrains in the last month alone.
While the Bavarians might not be the masters of the extremely bold design, you can’t ignore the BMW when you want to buy a new car these days. And one of the main reasons is that their turbocharged range is proving irresistible due to improved economy.
Today, BMW has announced they will be swopping out their 3.0-liter straight-six in the X3 xDrive28i for the brand new N20 2.0-liter turbo with Twin-Power technology. This engine produces 245 PS (180kW or 242 HP) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of peak torque.
We’ve heard rumors that the N20 is actually more powerful in reality than BMW would let us believe, and it’s probably the pick of the petrol range right now, due to the way it combines economy and performance.
The X3 is now able to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 6.7 seconds, while the combined fuel consumption is rated at 7.5 L/100km (31.3 mpg).
