A little under two months remaining before German manufacturer BMW pulls the wraps off the new generation 1 Series, reportedly at the Detroit Auto Show in January, and here are the first images showing both the convertible and the coupe versions.
Snapped during a photo shoot of the car, the photos depict a changed face for the 1 Series. Not an extensively changed one, but one which, for all intents and purposes, screams “new.” The next generation 1 Series gets redesigned headlights and tail lights, the same LED lights which will be seen on the 1 Series M and last, but not least, new colors.
As for the engines, nothing new surfaced so far. The rumor is the model will use two versions of a 2.0l four cylinder turbocharged engine, which will develop 204 and 238 horsepower, respectively. BMW will introduce smaller engines as well, with displacements of 1.2l and 1.5l and with power outputs ranging between 70 and 184 horsepower.
The M version of the line has already been snapped several times, even though never without camo. The sportier 1 Series will use a high performance intercooler and a twin-turbo six-cylinder engine developing 350 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft of torque.
The German manufacturer is also said to be working on a so-called "Supersport" version of the 1 Series. According to some reports, the Supersport will be positioned between the 135iS and the future M3.
More photos of the model, perhaps of a more official nature, are expected to surface along with new info in the near future.
