Volkswagen is set to debut a recall campaign that will see 2,471 units of the 2012 and 2013 model year Beetle due to an airbag issue. To be more specific, the models fitted with leather sport seats may experience the following issue: if the front passenger sear gets wet, the occupant control module might not detect the presence of a child restraint in the seat and thus the airbag may not be turned off.
Thus, in the event of a crash that would deploy the airbag, there is an increased risk of injury for a child secured in the special seat. VW will replace the control modules free of charge, but the company hans’t announced a schedule for the recall yet.
