One of the least populated niche segments of the automotive market is that of the performance pick-up trucks, so when a new actor enters this scene we can only be happy.

Toyota has recently decided to bring the TX TRD concept, which was presented at last year’s Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA) to production life, offering two performance packages for the 2011 Tacoma.

Dubbed TX and TX Pro, the kits can be ordered for the V6 Access Cab and V6 Double Cab that come with a 4x2 or a 4x4 drive system that are fitted with the TRD Off-Road package.

The TX package brings 16 inch rims with 265/70 R16 BF Goodrich Rugged Trail tires, black tube side steps, a stainless steel exhaust tip and custom decals. The kit retails for $1,699 (a savings of $754 compared to the package items ordered as separate options).

The TX Pro Package really targets performance, including items such as a TRD cat-back performance exhaust. It can be ordered for the same price of $1,699 (a savings of $720 versus the parts ordered separately).

The TRD Off-Road Package underlying both T|X editions provides a carefully tuned balance of off-road performance and on-road handling. Chassis modifications include an electronic locking rear differential, progressive-rate front springs, specially tuned Bilstein shock absorbers, a 28-mm front stabilizer bar and B.F. Goodrich Rugged Trail tires. Fog lamps top off the package for a tough, sporty appearance. Added features on the TRD Off-Road Package include a 400W/115V powerpoint in the bed, sport seats with adjustable lumbar support and unique fabric, plus an overhead console with a compass and outside temperature display,” stated the press release.

The 2011 Tacoma TX Pro Package will be available starting from July, with the TX Package coming in September.
