Despite the trend for electric vehicle and hybrids, the traditional formula for a muscle car (big engine, rear wheel drive, two doors) has plenty of appeal all around the world. This is especially true for the 2011 Charger, present at this year's LA Auto Show.
First we’ll bring you up to date with the features of the new Charger. Under the hood, the vehicle has received a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and a 5.7-liter Hemi V8. The newly introduced 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar produces 292 HP and 260 lb-ft (352 Nm), while the venerable HEMI V8, here in 5.7-liter displacement, provides a not so impressive 370 hp. That is good for a 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) sprint in a bit under 6 seconds for the R/T version.
The power is sent to the rear wheels, but am optional all-wheel-drive system is available. The Charger has also revised suspension, new 19 inch wheels, new front fascia, modified roofline, rear bumper with included trapezoidal exhaust tips and a diffuser, as well as special retro-inspired taillights that use 164 LEDs. Dodge says the new Charger has unibody packages material and structural design improvements, making the car handle better under cornering.
The car will be available in December and will come with a price of just $25,995 (EUR18,982) for the base 2011 Charger SE with the V6 Pentastar. Customers wanting a little bit more muscle can expect to pay $30,995 (EUR22,634) for the HEMI V8 effect, the rear-wheel drive R/T, while the AWD version comes with a $33,145 (EUR24,204) price tag.
