BorgWarner announced that its drivetrain and powerplant technology is featured on all the four vehicles that have received a 2010 Word Car of the Year Award.
The overall World Car of the Year winner, the Volkswagen Polo, uses BorgWarner variable geometry turbochargers, three-way valves, glow plugs and control modules for its diesel engines. The gasoline models feature the supplier’s timing systems and high pressure transmission solenoids (for the optional DSG automated manual transmission).
The World Performance Car of the Year, the Audi R8 uses high pressure transmission solenoids for the optional R-tronic automated manual transmission.
For the World Green Car of the Year, the Volkswagen BlueMotion range that includes the Polo, Golf and Passat, BorgWarner supplies variable turbine geometry turbochargers and three-way valves for the 1.6 liter diesel Polo as well as glow plugs and control modules for the thee models.
The World Car Design of the Year, the Chevrolet Camaro, features BorgWarner transmission components, including friction plates and sprag one-way clutch assemblies, for the optional six speed automatic transmission.
“BorgWarner's leading technologies help these notable vehicles give consumers what they crave: better fuel economy, lower emissions and improved performance," said Tim Manganello, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, BorgWarner. "Congratulations to Volkswagen Polo, Audi R8, Volkswagen BlueMotion (Polo. Golf, Passat) and Chevrolet Camaro for these prestigious honors."
The annual World Car Awards recognize automotive brilliance on a global scale, with the contenders being evaluated by a panel of 59 car journalists that come from 25 countries.
