1980 wasn't the greatest year for the Firebird, and the Trans Am suffered the most from the painful decrease in sales.
After a fantastic performance in 1979, when the Trans Am surpassed 119K sold units, 1980 brought a massive decline, with the entire lineup barely shipping 107K units. The Trans Am fell to 50,896 cars, while the Formula couldn't even account for 10,000 units (its yearly performance dropped to 9,356 vehicles).

The base Pontiac Firebird remained the runner-up in the disappointing charts with 29,811 orders.

The Trans Am in these photos is one of approximately 2,000 examples that rolled off the assembly lines as a Special Edition Y84.

The car's shape is fantastic, and I believe it's a waste of time to discuss its condition because the photos are worth a thousand words in this case. Everything is almost spotless, and the owner says they recently installed a new stripe kit and redone the dash bezel in the cabin. It's not a 100% original Trans Am, but it's not far either, with all options installed from the factory still available on the car.

The Special Edition was born with all options available in 1980, including air conditioning, power windows and power door locks, cruise control, a power track, an 8-track stereo system, and tilt steering. Everything is there in working condition.

You obviously won't find any rust on this Trans Am, and the paint looks great from every angle – I advise you to see the car in person before committing to a purchase. You should also put the car on a trailer and inspect the undersides, as it's unclear if the Tran Am has ever received undercarriage work.

The engine under the hood is the original 4.9-liter paired with an automatic transmission. It starts, runs, and drives correctly, and the owner explains that all emissions components are present and intact. The 301 four-barrel unit with a single exhaust joined the Trans Am lineup in 1979, with its output dropping from 150 to 140 horsepower for the 1980 model year.

A Trans Am in such a beautiful shape and with almost everything original is a rare find, so it's unsurprising that the car is getting so much attention on eBay. Seller car-nutt also configured a reserve, and it's unclear how high the bidding must go to unlock it, but for now, the WWW couldn't trigger it despite the top offer approaching $23K.

The digital fight will end in approximately one day, so the Trans Am is running out of time to find a new home. If you want to see it in person (assuming the bidding fails to hit the reserve), you must travel to Toronto, Ontario, as the car is located in Canada.
