These days, Chevrolet is killing off passenger car nameplates almost at the same rate my two kids - who love sweets, of course - are munching through M&M's whenever I gift them a bag for doing good deeds or hitting the report card at school with a long list of As.
Sure, maybe the comparison is unwarranted, but I was exaggerating on purpose - a lot of people do care about General Motors and Chevrolet's history, even if the greedy corporate head honchos don't believe them in their secluded corner offices. However, after last year, we found out we had to wave goodbye for an indefinite time to the iconic Camaro pony and muscle car now GM recently twisted the knife with the announcement that Chevy's Malibu is also going the way of the dodo at the end of the 2024 model year later this fall season.

Oh well, we're supposed to just fold and go to FoMoCo or Stellantis for a 2024 Ford Mustang S650 seventh-generation if we want a good ol' V8 under the hood or a Dodge Charger sedan or fastback coupe if we don't mind the switch to all-electric and inline-six twin-turbo powertrains. No worries, though, as there are rebellious minds that don't accept GM's established order.

For example, the imaginative realm of digital car content creators includes London, UK-based virtual artist Al Yasid, better known as al.yasid on social media, who is again making purists run amok crying their Chevy outrage. Or not? Not long ago, a fully custom Chevy SS became a requested dream restomod for someone. Now, if you fancy something like this, the pixel master can easily take things up a notch or two.

For instance, after spending a lot of time with Land Rover's Defender SUV to make it just about anything – from cabrio to 6x6 – he also gave us a blast from "past life shenanigans." This, as far as we can tell from what's left of the original model's design, is a second-generation Chevrolet Camaro Z28 (model years 1970-1981) circa 1978 to 1981, which has gone through enough changes to make it an 'Alter Ego' of its former self. In this pixel master's good tradition, the 'restomod' is not only dual-tone (carbon black and white or gold-gray) but also clad in a full widebody aerodynamic kit.

Those aren't even the most important highlights – we could also talk about the reworked interior that's hinted at in the CGI photos, about the crazy big ducktail spoiler or its massive rear extractor counterpart, as well as the LED lamps and the massive rear exhaust tips or the humongous front and rear wheel and tire setup, right? In the end, we think it's about time people started spending money on old Chevys that can be made like new rather than new ones that get old and boring real quick…
