The new C8 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 flagship has a debut date because Corvette and July go together like peanut butter and jelly – so let's save the date for July 25, when Chevrolet will unveil what is probably the most powerful Corvette iteration to date.
The rumor mill points north of 800 horsepower – so it will be a match for the upcoming $325k 2025 Ford Mustang GTD – but the arrival of the most powerful production Corvette of them all could also point to a very sad reality: General Motors has very few true high-performance sports cars left in its once-glorious stable.

Yes, there are Blackwings from Caddy – but they're sedans. Sure, the Escalade-V is also bonkers, but that's a supercharged SUV. The all-electric Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV also have crazy amounts of power – but those are pickup trucks. Real sports cars with two doors and two seats are a rare occurrence now at GM.

In fact, even those with four seats are a dying breed – the sixth generation Chevy Camaro ended production in December 2023, and there's no successor in sight, only rumors about an affordable EV that might continue the lineage, much to the chagrin of GM fans everywhere.

As such, maybe it's better to take solace and refuge in the past – General Motors has a massive library of sports car nameplates. For example, PC Classic Cars, a Sherman, Texas-based old-school dealership, has an interesting proposal for the enthusiasts of the Chevrolet Chevelle series.

The latter was a mid-sized model that was manufactured over three generations as part of the A-body roster from 1963 to 1977. The body styles included coupes, sedans, convertibles, and station wagons; the Chevelle was one of Chevrolet's most successful nameplates, and of course that, today, the most desirable models for enthusiasts and collectors are the feisty 'Super Sport' or the ritzy Laguna versions.

This is a 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, so it's part of the final model year for the second generation and comes with the 'high performance' 383 V8 engine, which is obviously a crate engine swap as the second iteration of the Chevelle only had access to 307, 327, 350, and 400ci small-block V8s, originally. The good news continues with the odometer showing just 6,122 miles – but there's a catch, of course.

So, the dealership is careful to note that "actual mileage cannot be verified," so it's entirely possible the mileage was reset from the moment that 383 V8 (with 525 hp!) was installed. Anyway, the transmission is a four-speed manual box; there are headers, a dual exhaust setup, and Holley Flowmaster mufflers, plus the steering and the front disc brakes are powered.

Additionally, this Chevelle SS comes with a Vintage AC air conditioning system, a black interior (original code was "703" Black Bench), a contrasting red exterior with lots of chrome pieces (original code "24" was Ascot Blue), and shiny 15-inch Crager wheels shod in 225/60 front and 295/50 rear tires that hook to very nice surprise – an adjustable front and rear QA1 suspension system.

Thanks to its many additional features: hood pins, functioning cowl induction hood, Champion aluminum radiator and electric fans, aftermarket gauges, Comfort Grip steering wheel, RetroSound audio system with Kicker speakers, and sub plus amplifier; this 1972 Chevelle SS restomod won't sell too cheap – the dealer's listing is for $48,500.
