This stunning 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T is currently up for grabs to the highest bidder, with 64,000 real miles on its numbers-matching drivetrain, meaning it’s got the same engine and transmission it left the factory with.
When Dodge first introduced the Challenger in late 1969, they made sure to unleash both an entry-level spec as well as a performance model, the latter being dubbed R/T (Road/Track). It came with a standard 383 ci (6.3L) Magnum V8, rated at 335 hp, plus a three-speed manual transmission.

Those who wanted more muscle could then choose between a wide range of optional engines, starting with the 375 hp 440 ci (7.2L) Magnum, a 390 hp 440 ci (7.2L) Six-Pack, and the 426 ci (7.0L) Hemi, which had 425 horsepower. Basically, whichever variant you chose, it had plenty of performance. Much like this Dark Burnt Orange Metallic example here.

This is a numbers-matching 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 440 Six-Pack that just happens to look nearly good-as-new. It was repainted in the mid-1990s and comes with a dual-scoop hood and securing pins, a black vinyl roof, black longitudinal stripes, dual side mirrors, R/T graphics, a quick-release fuel cap, and a set of 15” Rallye wheels with 245/70 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires.

Meanwhile, interior highlights include the black vinyl front bucket seats and rear bench, woodgrain trim, an AM/FM radio, three-spoke steering wheel, a Hurst pistol-grip shifter and a total of 64,000 miles showing on the five-digit odometer. The mileage, according to the seller, is real – and only 2,000 miles were added under current ownership.

That 440 Six-Pack is factory-fitted with a trio of two-barrel carburetors and would have produced 390 horsepower and 490 lb-ft of torque when new. It’s worth mentioning that it got rebuilt with .040”-over pistons in 2002, and that a tune-up was performed in 2022. As you can see in the ad, the engine stamping is still visible, as is the stamping on the transmission.

Speaking of which, the latter is a four-speed manual, working alongside a Sure-Grip limited-slip differential. The gearbox was rebuilt, and the clutch replaced in 2022, while the driveshaft and mufflers were replaced just last year.

It also needs to be said that there’s a lien on the car, meaning the seller’s lender will need to be paid off before the title can be transferred to somebody else. Still, I doubt this will turn any potential bidders off, seeing as how Challengers as stunning as this one are few and far between. Short of getting your hands on a Hemi-powered car, the 440 Six-Pack is easily the second-best V8 engine ever used on the first-generation Challenger.

As for how much this car is worth, it just sold for $108,000, which sounds about right.
