Out of the three generations of Chevrolet Chevelle, the now defunct nameplate fascinated a lot of guys and gals with its second incarnation. Built between 1968 and 1972, the second-gen Chevrolet Chevelle was all things to all petrolheads, but this baby right here is probably the most desirable of the lot.
What you can admire in the photo gallery below, ladies and gents, is the 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Red Alert Super Stock drag racecar owned by professional driver Bobby Hamilton during the first half of the ‘70s. Heading to Mecum Auctions’ Kissimmee, Florida sale in January, 2015, this car is 60 percent original.
The seller claims that “it is almost entirely as Hamilton raced it, retaining its original sheet metal and interior and most of its original Cranberry Red paint,” coming with a Protect-O-Plate with Bob Hamilton’s name on it as well. To boot, the 450 horsepower LS6 454 cu. in. (7.4L) big-block V8 tower-of-power is coming with matching numbers.
There’s no estimate on how high the bidding is expected to go, but we’re pretty certain this highly collectible 1970 Chevelle will change hands for a lot of green dollar bills. More so when you consider the seller bundles it with Hamilton's helmet, the bill of sale and even the build sheet of this iconic drag racer.

Bob was sponsored at that time by model kit company AMT
Thanks to Hamilton's SS/DA national class record during the 1972 season, as well as winning Top Eliminator in 14 of 16 events in 1976, AMT took notice of Red Alert’s performances and hot graphics. That’s how AMT’s 1:25 scale model of the Chevelle became the best selling kit AMT ever sold in the US.There’s no estimate on how high the bidding is expected to go, but we’re pretty certain this highly collectible 1970 Chevelle will change hands for a lot of green dollar bills.
