This stunning 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback model features a Royal Maroon exterior, black vinyl interior, and matching-numbers everything. It’s the type of Holy Grail car that collectors dream of when they go to bed at night thinking about their life choices.
Gentlemen, back in October of 2023, we published a feature article dubbed ‘All-Time Best Classic American Muscle Cars’, starting with a list of 32 models and working our way down to just two in Playoff format style. The “March Madness” of muscle cars, except in October.

As you can imagine, the Ford Mustang Boss 429 was part of that bracket, both the 1969 as well as the 1970 model year car.

The ‘69 Boss 429 had to go through the 1970 Ford Torino GT Cobra in the Round of 32, then the ‘70 Boss 429 in the Sweet Sixteen, the 1969 Mustang Mach 1 in the Elite Eight, and the Chevrolet Nova Yenko S/C in the Final Four. The Grand Final was then set between the ‘69 Boss 429 and Dodge Charger Daytona. Here’s another look at that title fight.

Spoiler alert, the Mustang won, and for good reason. It’s the type of rare collectible that people still want to drive and enjoy from time to time, whereas the Charger Daytona is the type of American Classic that usually lives out its life in storage.

Fast forward to today, and we’ve found possibly one of the best 1969 Mustang Boss 429 models still in existence. It was up for grabs at auction up until recently, where it failed to sell because its reserve wasn’t met – we don’t know what the number was, but rest assured it would have been big.

First, this is a numbers-matching car. The Boss 429 engine is numbers-matching (displaying 37,250 miles), and so is the four-speed manual gearbox. This alone is worth the “price of admission.” Second, we’re dealing with the ultra-desirable Royal Maroon colorway. It’s the quintessential Boss 429 original color. Third, the vehicle features the original dealer invoice, build sheet, owner’s manual with supplement, Ford owner card, warranty booklet, and even its assembly line quality control checklist.

The reason this thing looks good-as-new is because of the top-quality nut-and-bolt rotisserie restoration process. Even the undercarriage looks pristine. As for the interior, it boasts these gorgeous black Clarion knit / Corinthian vinyl Hi-Back bucket seats, which as you can see, are in excellent condition.

Powering this Mustang is, of course, the iconic Boss 429 engine, which had a factory rating of 375 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. This thing had just as much grunt as a Nova Yenko S/C. It’s a straight-line beast.

Ultimately, if I had to guesstimate the value of this car, I think I could go as high as half a million dollars, if not more.
