What you see in the video below is not the first custom incarnation of this 1968 Chevrolet Camaro. This Chevy used to pack a small block and rely on nitrous to deliver its blow, but things have now changed.
While the slab of GM is now motivated by a new small block, the power adder choice has been changed, with the Camaro using a monster turbocharger. To be more precise, we're dealing with a 106mm turbo here, which helps a 406ci V8 motivate the retro machine.
Since we're still very early in the season and this is the Camaro's shakedown, there's still plenty of extra performance to be extracted from this 1,320 feet rising star. For now, that gigantic turbo delivers 15 lbs of boost.
You might be wondering what determines a Camaro owner to go for such a generously-sized turbo. Well, as the owner explains in the piece of footage below, one of his friends has built a car that uses the same turbo size, so he simply sought inspiration in his buddy's project and then adapted the rest of the vehicle to cope with the monstrous hardware he had bought.
We're looking at a clean build here, with the attention to details being interesting to say the least. The wiring is an example as good as any, with this Chevrolet having everything nicely put into place.
We're expecting to see more of this TURBO camaro throughout the year and you shouldn't be worried - as soon as the extreme Chevy delivers a memorable piece of drag strip action (here's to hoping its driver doesn't hit the streets at night), we'll bring it to you.
For the record, the Camaro has only pulled around ten passes so far, so it's not difficult to understand why we're waiting for its full potential to be unleashed.
