A rare 1966 Ford GT40 race was recently found in a California garage. Discovered in a pile of junk and boxes by Tom Shaughnessy, the GT40 turned out to be chassis P/1067, the last vehicle to be produced in 1966.
Although it appears to lack the racing heritage of other GT40s, this example is far from being unimportant considering it’s also the only Mk I cars to feature a Mk II clamshell to survive to this day (only three were built) and the last GT40 to use a Ford serial number.
Acquired in 1975 by retired fire fighter, the race car was kept in storage for the past 37 years, with the owner unable to repair it due to health problems. Shaughnessy declined to reveal the amount he paid for the GT40, but we hope he’ll restore the vehicle to its racing specifications.
