Maybe it’s the pleasure of seeing in how bad of a condition cars can get over time, or maybe it’s the need to find the perfect base for a future custom project, but the fact remains people like resting their eyes upon cars so decrepit they would have been taken to the shredder elsewhere.
Yet in America, rust buckets are not shredded but resold. Some of them come back to life as a result of this changing of hands, but most get lost along the way. We hope the 1956 Ford we have here is part of the former category.
This car was once a shiny, stylish Ford in Victoria hardtop guise, sporting the lines that make the cars of the age turn heads and cause nostalgia episodes in people living today. Only it’s been so neglected it’s hard to see all that beauty now.
The car is described as a barn find, and as most other barn finds, it’s in horrible condition. Rust is the dominant hue now (it was originally a mix between Raven Black and Fiesta Red), and the king of all of the body’s real estate: it’s on the panels (all of them), on the chrome elements, inside the metal, and so on.
At the interior, it’s not only time that had a say in eating away at the hardware, but water too. We’re not told how it made it’s way inside, but the reality remains that it took its toll on seats, floors, headliner, and trunk.
Under the rusted hood, there’s a 292ci (4.8-liter engine), but it’s unclear whether it is original to this car or if it even works. The odometer oddly shows 2,500 miles (4,000 km), but those, of course, are not original.
Usually one can find cars in such condition on eBay or Craigslist, but this one is selling off a dealer’s lot. The asking price is $3,500.
