The third incarnation of the Dodge Viper (afficionados call it the Gen 5) doesn't get nearly as much aftermarket attention as the C7 Corvette or the Hellcat, for instance.
The unique V10 configuration and the limited clientele means tuners don't see the Viper as their priority, but, now and then, we get to see an amazingly venomous project that sweeps us off our feet.
Case in point with the Dodge Viper TA in the video below, which now holds two world record. Delivering 1,500 hp thanks to a twin-turbo setup, this already was the most muscular Gen 5 out there.
However, after a recent half-mile event held on Heaven’s Landing Airstrip in Clayton, GA, this TA has also become the world's quickest Gen 5 Viper.
Competing in the rear-wheel-drive class on 19-inch wheels, the Viper steadily worked its way up, with the result being a 200.5 mph (make that 323 km/h if you're a follower of the metric system) trap speed. The driver explains beating 200 had become a personal goal for the entire team behind the car.
Under that long hood, we find a built 8.4-liter motor that, according to the driver, delivers 1,250 hp on pump gas and has maintained its drivability - the Viper only comes with a stick, remember?
As it happens with many half-mile cars, from older Vipers to Lamborghinis and GT-Rs, this TA has kept its appearance mostly stock. Nevertheless, given the kind of spedds its can reach, the beast has been gifted with a wing, albeit one that's not quite as large as that on the Viper ACR. Since the octane behemoth has more than doubled its factory output, the sleeper jokes are welcome.
Oh, and the soundtrack brings an interesting bonus, with the TT setup appearing to deliver greater aural pleasures than the standard atmospheric game, so the piece of footage below offers double the fun.
