A 12-year-old caused a disturbance in Austin in the early hours of Monday morning. The kid was spotted after driving in such a careless manner that even included a near-miss with a cyclist.
The police officers that first observed the vehicle expected the driver to be using a mobile phone while behind the wheel.
They asked the driver to stop, but the 12-year-old gunned it and attempted to flee from the police officers, who then engaged in pursuit.
The boy was alone in the vehicle, and he eventually crashed into a pickup truck, and then hit a traffic pole. The gray SUV that was being driven by the underage felon was totaled, but he was unharmed. An ambulance took him to the nearest hospital to treat minor injuries caused by the severe accident.
Police officers of the local precinct have stated that they suspected the child to be intoxicated, but that part of the story has not been validated yet. According to reports, the charges currently include failing to stop and render aid, evading the police, and driving without a license. These come on top of the current investigation, which is focused on driving while intoxicated.
The driver of the pickup truck that was struck by the child's SUV was not injured. Fortunately, no pedestrians were on the street on South Pleasant Valley Road and East Riverside Drive when the accident took place.
This news would have included casualties if any people had been in the way of the vehicle that was in the hands of a person too young to browse the Internet alone, not to mention driving.
The kid will face the law in juvenile court. Police officers have not disclosed whether this is the first offense for the 12-year-old boy, KVUE notes. Depending on the conclusions of the investigation, the boy’s parents might also be charged in this case, because it was their responsibility to take care of their child.
