Sometimes, the most surprising of builds come from tuners most aficionados haven't heard of and one of the best European examples of such a company is Boba Motoring.
We've talked about the German aftermarket developer's Volkswagen goodies on multiple occasions and yet the small company's clips never cease to amaze us. You can find their latest video at the bottom of the page and, this time around, we're dealing with an Mk II Golf.
To use the full name of this compact bomb, we'll call it the Boba Motoring Volkswagen Golf Mk II 4Motion 2.0-liter 12V Turbo. And while these naming details tell you a lot about the tech details of the thing, you should know this is a street car, not a track-confined toy.
The piece of footage we have here shows the monstrous restomod, if we may call it so, performing a 0 to 174 mph (280 km/h) acceleration test, one where only the dashboard instruments are filmed.
And while this car can deliver 1,233 hp and 807 lb-ft (1,094 Nm) when running at 64 psi of boost, the test seen here has been done at 53 psi, which lowered the output to... 1,100 hp. Oh, and by the way, we're dealing with a racing-inspired dog ring gearbox here (think: faster changes, but more difficult to use).
You should know the four-cylinder heart of this Golf packs an E85 setup, an ExtremeTuners turbocharger, as well as an NG-Motorsports CNC-ported cylinder head, while the ECU mapping and the build itself were handled by Boba Motorsport.
Tipping the scales at a mere 2,601 lbs (1,180 kg), this Golf can complete the quarter mile task in 8.26 seconds at 169.5 mph (273 km/h). As for the classic 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) game, this can be played in 2.1 seconds. The top speed of the thing isn't too shabby either, with the Vee-Dub being able to climb past 217 mph (350 km/h).
Oh and as for the speedometer's initial jump you'll be able to see here, that's what we call AWD wheelspin.
