1,050-HP VW Golf Drags AMG GT 63 S, One Driver Closes the Door Mid-Race and Still Wins

This channel is your go-to venue for prototype discovery in Europe or for checking out modified cars in various capacities, including at the Nürburgring – but that doesn't mean the videographer doesn't enjoy racing, either. More precisely, the Race 1000 event organized in Germany (last year, they also held their first-ever stint in the United States at the Chase Industrial Complex in Beeville, Texas) is quite famous and always makes a lasting impression.

Also a popular venue in other places from Europe like the UK and Sweden, the gist of it all is simple - with over 1.5 miles of aircraft runway at their disposal, vehicles compete in the roll racing and standing half-mile formats with four classes of racers for the rolls and another five for half-mile racing. However, unlike in America, where the digs matter in terms of seconds, here it is all about the higher top speed across both event formats.

Recently, this videographer's latest feature, which was filmed in Germany, featured many of the usual suspects, from Ferraris to Lambos and from AMGs to Supras. But embedded in the compilation were also some hidden gems – including a feisty Volkswagen Golf Mk2 along with a Golf Mk3 R32. Now, because it seems the latter made a lasting impression on the videographer, there's an entire video dedicated to it.

According to the description, this tuned monster is a Volkswagen Golf Mk3 R32 4Motion with enough mods to reach no less than 1,050 horsepower – and it even has a detachable steering wheel. However, it's not exactly new like some of its opponents, so things might start to fall off, detach, or open when they're not supposed to. You'll see what we mean at the 3:30 mark if you're not patient to bear with the story up until that point.

Anyway, the video starts with a short presentation of the rig followed by an initial roll race to put things into the proper perspective. The R32 faces off with an even older BMW 3 Series (identified by the author as a "crazy BMW 325i E30 Turbo"), and it turns out this type of race is also this Volkswagen's cue, winning the fight with a top-speed of 268 kph (167 mph) versus 255 kph (158 mph).

Secondly, it also rolls against a fresh BMW M3, but we don't see the result for some reason. Thirdly, it's time for a rerun of the meeting with the F90 BMW M5 Competition – and its third consecutive victory. Last but not least comes a black Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4-Door beast. Again, the 'green goblin' doesn't seem to take off with the same poise as a rocket – and it turns out the driver needed some time to adjust the door-closing mechanism because it didn't latch correctly! After that, it's all warp speed – and another crazy 272 kph (169 mph) versus 232 kph (144 mph) victory!
