FCA US LLC has issued a mammoth recall in the United States, totaling 1,033,433 vehicles from the Jeep, Ram, Dodge, and Chrysler brands. Including those sold in Canada, that's 1.2 million vehicles.
According to documents filed with the National Highway Safety Administration, iffy radio software prevents the rearview image from displaying. The aforementioned vehicles, therefore, do not comply with the rear visibility requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111.

FCA US LLC's Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance organization started looking into this matter in October 2023. Said organization brought in FCA US Engineering to better understand the problem, with Engineering confirming that an updated software will fix the described condition.

The remedy software is listed under a plethora of part numbers, which is hardly surprising due to the variation of vehicles included in this recall. Think Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, and ProMaster, Jeep Compass, Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee L, Wagoneer, and Grand Wagoneer, Dodge Durango, and the Chrysler Pacifica. Their model years range from 2021 through 2023, whereas production dates range from June 10, 2020 to November 16, 2023.

Because it's nigh-on impossible to determine when a vehicle was produced without access to the automaker's production records, affected owners are recommended to run the 17-character VIN online. Be it NHTSA's website or a given brand's recall portal, this solution is much simpler than calling customer service or the preferred dealer.

By law, owners have to be informed via first-class mail. Notifications will be mailed no later than August 2, 2024. By then, service technicians will be instructed to update the software at no charge whatsoever to the customers. Stellantis-controlled FCA US LLC refers to this recall as 66B, while the federal watchdog's number is listed as 24V-436.

The Jeep brand's compact-sized Compass utility vehicle currently retails at $25,900 in the US market, making it the most affordable Jeep available for model year 2024. Said base price does not include taxes and optional extras. Higher up the spectrum, the Grand Cherokee twins kick off at $36,495 and $40,035, respectively. Come 2025, the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 will be allegedly discontinued in favor of the 4xe's 2.0-liter turbo inline-four.

Jeep has already downsized the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer from the original 5.7- and 6.4-liter HEMI engines to the 3.0-liter Hurricane. A straight-six with two snails, the Hurricane delivers either 420 horsepower and 468 pound-feet (635 Nm) or 510 ponies and 500 pound-feet (678 Nm).

The DT-generation Ram 1500 has also swapped the 5.7-liter HEMI for the 3.0-liter Hurricane, whereas the DS-generation Ram 1500 Classic soldiers on with the Pentastar and HEMI. Better known as Fiat Ducato in the Old Continent, the Ram ProMaster full-size van is available with either the 3.6-liter Pentastar or a front-drive electric powertrain that's good for 162 miles (261 kilometers) on a full charge in city driving rather than the combined test cycle.

To be replaced by a STLA Large-based sport utility vehicle for model year 2026, the Durango features old bones from the previous-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee. Finally, the Pacifica is the nation's favorite minivan, with Chrysler moving 120,554 examples of the breed stateside in 2023.
