Hyosung was a South Korean motorcycle manufacturer founded in 1978. It was a division of the Hyosung Group of Industries. In 1979, Hyosung started manufacturing Japanese Suzuki motorcycle designs.

The Comet was a series that comprised three motorcycles powered by a V-twin engine with different displacements: 125, 250, and 650cc. The range comprised several models, such as the GT125, GT125R, GT250R, GT250, GT650R, GT650S, and GT650.

In 2004, the South Korean motorcycle producer introduced the Hyosung GT250 Comet, a naked motorcycle that shared many parts with its larger siblings. The bike came in two versions: The GT250 Comet (nude) and the GT250R (sports model). In addition, the Comet designation was dropped in 2010 when the fuel-injected model was released.

The GT250R model was released at the same time as the naked model. Officially, the "R" model didn't wear the Comet suffix, but its fairings had the Comet stickers and the same specs as the naked model, making aesthetics the main difference between the two.

The bike was made around a steel frame with a 41 mm inverted telescopic fork handling the front suspension and an adjustable monoshock taking care of the rear end.

The 2004 Hyosung GT250 Comet was powered by a 249cc four-stroke liquid-cooled V-twin engine that delivered an output power of 30 hp at 10,500 rpm and 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) torque at 9,500 rpm.
