In 1993, the Japanese maker launched the Honda XR 650L, a street/trail motorcycle more similar to the XR 600R than the XR 650R. It was part of the XR series, which comprised many models with different engine displacements and designations.

From 1983 until the present (2024), the Honda XR650L has remained largely unchanged in production, delivering the same technical, visual, and performance specifications without any modifications.

The Honda XR series was a range of enduro motorcycles produced by Honda. The bikes were designed in Japan but assembled all over the globe. Several XR models came in two versions, "L" and "R".

In 2009, the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer released the Honda XR650L, a dual-sports motorcycle, in its fifteenth consecutive production year. The bike was designed for those riders for whom motorcycles don't stop where the pavement ends.

It came with wire-spoke wheels shod with off-road tires, an engine plate, a high-mounted exhaust system with a silencer mounted on the right-hand side, a single seat with a toolbox, a high-mounted front fender, and a small square headlight integrated into a small front cowl.

In the performance department, the 2007 Honda XR650L had installed a 644cc four-stroke single-cylinder air-cooled engine at its core, delivering an output power of 41 hp with a maximum strength at 6,000 rpm and 52 Nm (38 lb-ft) torque at 4,000 rpm.
