In 1990, the Japanese motorcycle maker introduced a series of sport-touring motorcycles that comprised the ST1100 Pan European model and the later and larger ST1300 machine. The Pan European model was designed for Europe as a lighter, sportier, and more maneuverable motorcycle.

The ST1100 Pan European model was first introduced in 1990, powered by a 1,085cc liquid-cooled V4 engine instead of the flat-four unit packed by the Gold Wing model. Also, the bike retained most of its characteristics from the Gold Wing machine, including the shaft drive, full fairing, and integral panniers.

In 2000, the motorcycle maker introduced the Honda ST1100 Pan European, a sport touring machine manufactured from 1990 to 2002 and a different version that featured an additional Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS).

The 2000 Honda ST1100A Pan European, like the "A" suffix in its name, says it came equipped with ABS, which provided better control and safety in emergency braking situations or on various road conditions.

A 41 mm telescopic fork that provided 150mm wheel travel was fitted on the front and handled the front suspension. The rear suspension was driven by an adjustable shock absorber that offered 120 mm wheel travel.

Onto the three-spoke lightweight cast aluminum wheels, the bike's braking performance was achieved by two 296 mm discs with three-piston calipers on the front and a single 296 mm disc on the rear with a three-piston caliper.

The power of 100 hp with a peak at 8,500 rpm and 107 Nm (79 lb-ft) of torque at 6,000 rpm was transferred to the ground through a five-speed manual transmission and a shaft drive, pushing the bike to a top speed of 222 kph (138 mph).
