Segment: Supermotard
Production years: 2011, 2012
The Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 was a supermotard machine that debuted in 2010. It was the largest of the series, and despite the common name, the 750 and 1200 actually shared few elements. In addition, the 1200 version had more in common with the Aprilia Caponord 1200 made from 2013.
In 2011, the Italian motorcycle manufacturer launched the Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200, a naked machine with new levels of finish, trim, agility, and smoothness never experienced before on a V-twin motorcycle this size.
Every detail was focused on pure function, such as the all-new hand guards and motard-style number plate. It has excellent attention to detail, such as the two-tone paint job on the frame, the color-coded tail fairing with the rest of the body elements, and the new dual-exhaust system with black-finished heat guards.
Aesthetically, the bike was fitted with standard features, such as a small front cowl, a high-mounted rear fender, a single seat, a dual exhaust system with two silencers mounted under the seat, and multi-spoke alloy wheels, 12-spoke front 10-spoke rear.
Some unique characteristics were represented by the V-twin engine, triple map ride-by-wire technology with Sport, Touring, and Rain modes, an ultralight modular frame, an aluminum saddle mount, an aluminum swingarm, an off-set horizontally mounted rear shock, fully adjustable suspensions, and Brembo brakes.
In the power department, the 2011 Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 took its muscles from a 1,197cc four-stroke liquid-cooled V-twin engine that boasted 131 hp at 8,700 rpm and 115 Nm (85 lb-ft) torque at 7,200 rpm.
