Specialized in tuning Mustangs and F-150s, Saleen is back in business with a rather ambitious product plan and an eye on China. No fewer than four models are in the pipeline, starting with the revival of the S7 mid-engine supercar.
An exclusive run of the S7 – the Le Mans – launched in 2017, but the story doesn’t end there. Jiangsu Secco Automobile Technology Corporation bought Saleen, upping the output of the twin-turbo land missile to 1,300 horsepower. The 2020 revival of the S7 is targeting 1,500 horsepower and 1,328 pound-feet from a 7.0-liter engine based on the Ford Windsor V8.

Saleen claims that kind of suck-squeeze-bang-blow is enough for 2.2 seconds to 100 km/h (62 mph) and a top speed of 480 km/h (298 mph). The second model is also a mid-engine design, the S1 which will be manufactured in China starting in 2020 as well. This fellow is a bit less extreme, claiming 457 horsepower and 426 pound-feet of torque from the 2.3-liter Ecoboost.

Automotive journalist Greg Kable uploaded a few photographs from the grand event in China, and Saleen has also confirmed an entry in “the electric city car ranks with the Maimai It is powered by a 107-horsepower electric motor and is claimed to boast an electric range of up to 190 miles.”

As if that wasn’t strange enough, the Saleen MAC promises 400 horsepower, lots of torque, and internal combustion. Like the two mid-engined models, the sport utility vehicle is intended to enter production locally in 2020.

The launch event in China signals a turn of fortune for the American company, which fares better from a financial standpoint thanks to the Jiangsu Secco Automobile Technology Corporation. Founder Steve Saleen now serves as the vice chairman of Saleen, and according to reports in the Chinese media, the Chinese mothership has a registered capital of almost $1.5 billion.

A factory in the Rugao Economic and Technological Development Zone is under construction, and the local government is heavily involved in the project. The chairman and CEO of Jiangsu Secco Automobile Technology is Wang Xiaolin, a man who calls himself a doctor, chairman, and chief executive officer of Saleen.
