Mercedes E-Class is surely a best-seller for the German company as no less than 1.5 million units of the current generation have been delivered to customers worldwide. According to figures provided by Mercedes, 1,270,000 buyers opted for the sedan variant of the car while 230,000 customers chose the station wagon variant.
In terms of market figures, Germany and the United States brought the highest sales when it comes to Mercedes E-Class, with E 220 CD and E350, the most popular engine versions among buyers. Each of these two countries represent 25 percent of total sales, Mercedes said in a statement sent to the press. Approximately 40 percent of the buyers were looking for a diesel-powered car, the German firm added.
“The current E-Class and its predecessor models have been the ‘heart’ of Mercedes-Benz for more than 60 years now. With its typical brand attributes that include safety, comfort, innovation, economy, and quality, the E-Class has delighted around 12 million customers worldwide across eight model generations,” says Dr. Klaus Maier, Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing Mercedes-Benz Cars.
Mercedes' E-Class has quite a thrilling history, being present on the market since 2002 but achieving several milestones and incorporating multiple changes brought by the evolution of the market. For instance, the German automaker installed the BlueTEC diesel technology in 2007, with E 300 BlueTEC the first model that gets Mercedes' new technology.
The E 320 BlueTEC model was chosen “2007 World Green Car”, additional to a couple of different awards gained in the past, such as the Auto Motor und Sport magazine Best Car in the Upper Mid-Range Segment award.
