Tesla Model S owners probably thought that holding the key fob in their hands and making the car slide out of that tight parking space was cool enough, but they've got nothing on the guys at Touch Titans.
The term "mind control" has been thrown around pretty easily lately, but with devices that can capture brain waves and transform them into ones and zeros that different software can understand, it's sometimes the correct term to use. Even though it sounds a bit more pompous than what is actually happening.
Even though there's a lot going on in the background, the basic idea is simple: using a brain activity monitor called Emotiv Insight to capture brainwaves and transform them into data, all Touch Titans had to do next was to find a way into the mind of the Model S. And the easiest way to do that was using the official Tesla app that allows control over various functions of the car.
The smartphone application offers numerous useful features like heating or cooling the vehicle remotely, locking or unlocking the car from anywhere in the world or using its GPS module to locate the car or track its movements on a map. However, if it wanted to make the video showcasing the "mind control" ability spectacular, Touch Titans needed to choose something a lot more striking visually.
So it used the Summoning function. With a headset on (the Emotiv Insight) and a laptop in his hands, a man demonstrates his Jedi-like abilities by making the Model S move backward, and then forward. For all we know, another man could have been sitting behind the camera with a key in his hand telling the EV to move the "old fashioned way," but we've seen RC cars controlled in more or less the same way, so we know this is entirely possible. Still, watching a small plastic car moved around is nothing compared to a full-size Tesla Model S.
