2016 Ford F-150 Special Edition Appearance Package Unveiled

The 2015 Ford F-150 represented a lot of things for the Blue Oval’s trusty workhorse. Aluminum body shell, a far-reaching aesthetic makeover, adaptive cruise control, and many more. For the 2016 Ford F-150, the manufacturer ups the ante with more innovation and a Special Edition Appearance Package.

First and foremost, just look at this thing. It’s an upscale Lariat treated with the Special Edition Appearance Package and it is fine by us. Available on the XLT as well, the visual pack brings 20-inch aluminum wheels with a dark anodized finish and red lettering, pitch black running boards, blacked-out headlamps, bodyside decals, cool-looking seats enhanced with Alcantara inserts, contrast stitching, and red bolsters for a little extra sportiness.

The package’s highlight is the dark anodized grille with black mesh for the XLT and the dark anodized grille with red details for the F-150 Lariat. Mind you, Ford tells that the Special Edition Appearance Package requires you to first tick the box that reads Sport Appearance Package. Among the new features for the 2016 Ford F-150, two paint jobs (Tuxedo Black and Guard Metallic) are replaced by Shadow Black and Lithium Gray. For the XL model, the truck boasts optional 20-inch aluminum wheels with silver pockets.

The MyFord Touch touchscreen infotainment system of the 2015 model year is replaced by Ford SYNC 3, which is the more streamlined, faster, more competent, and easier to use version of the Blue Oval’s infotainment solution. Now for the interesting additions: the 2016 Ford F-150 animated by the 5-liter V8 motor is now available with a gaseous-fuel option. As such, the F-150 becomes the only light-duty pickup truck in America that can run on compressed natural gas or propane.

For those that use their trucks to tow more than anything else, the Ford F-150 can be equipped with a feature known as Pro Trailer Backup Assist. Boiled down to its core values, this feature allows owners to steer a trailer by turning a knob left or right to indicate the direction. After operating the knob, a gizmo controls the steering and limits vehicle speed to steer a trailer accordingly.
