Jaguar is planning to launch a brand new compact executive sedan to rival BMW's popular 3 Series next year and we have the latest images and details about the project.
The XE will be the cheapest Jag you can buy, comparable to the Audi A4, and it will be powered by the brand new "Ingenium" family of four-cylinder engines. These will include a new 2-liter diesel that will be 17% more efficient than the current 2.2-liter used in the XF.
The ‘iQ Al’ aluminum structure will underpin this and many other JLR projects, including the replacement for the Discovery. Of course, all this engineering counts for nothing if Ian Callum's design teams come up with a design that is strong and elegant at the same time. The XE will have to be pretty special if it wants to convince people to forget about the dreadful Ford Mondeo based X-Type.
This rendering was recently created by Virtuel-Car based on a teaser video from Jaguar. It shows a combination of elements from the sexy F-Type sportscar and the larger XF sedan. These features need to work perfectly together, since the all-new XE is crucial for Jaguar's future growth.
Back in 2013, Chief executive officer of Jaguar and Land Rover Ralf Speth said the XE will be the “most efficient, advanced and refined premium sports saloon ever seen in the C/D segment”. Let's just hope he's right on that one.
